Serum or Ampoule — Does the Name Matter?

Not much. On our shelf, “ampoule” tends to mean a single-active, water-thin treatment used a few drops at a time, while “serum” covers a wider range, including a few that are closer to a light lotion. What actually separates one bottle from another is the active ingredient and the base it is carried in, not the word printed on the label. Shop by what you want it to do, not by which name it carries.

Choose by What You Want It To Do

  • For uneven tone and dark spots. Five formulas work on pigmentation from different angles: the drop we built for under-eye circles leads with vitamin C, the White Rice Ampoule and 24K Gold Ampoule each add a different brightening active, and the Fairness Serum and Beauty Serum range lean on alpha arbutin alongside niacinamide — the ingredient behind most of our tone actives — to round things out.
  • For dehydrated, tight-feeling skin. The Hyaluronic Acid Ampoule is built to plump and hold water at the surface rather than treat a specific mark, and it layers well under anything else on this list.
  • For fine lines and loss of firmness. Our once-a-night retinol drop and the Collagen Booster Ampoule work on texture and structure rather than colour, and both take longer to show a difference than a tone product does.
  • For oily or breakout-prone skin. The Anti-Acne Ampoule is built without a single oil, acid or fragrance, so it controls shine and calms redness without adding another exfoliant to your routine.

How to Layer More Than One

Ampoules are thin enough to go on damp, cleansed skin — start with what to cleanse with before you layer any of these, then apply one ampoule at a time, waiting for each to sink in before the next. Our beauty serums — the Beauty Serum, Gold Plus Beauty Serum, Yusma Beauty Serum and Easy Fresh Beauty Serum — are richer, closer to a light emulsion, and are built to go last, over the ampoules rather than under them, sealing everything in. Applied first, a beauty serum can stop anything else from absorbing properly. If fine lines and firmness are what brought you here, our full routine for fine lines and firmness goes into more depth on building a full routine around it.

None of these are sunscreen, and none of them will make skin lighter than its natural range. What changes with consistent use is evenness — fewer visible marks and less contrast between light and dark patches. If a product promises permanent whitening, that is not a claim we make, and it is not one dermatology supports.

FAQs

How many of these can I use at once?

Two is a sensible ceiling when you are starting out — one for tone, one for hydration or texture. Adding more raises the chance of irritation without much extra benefit.

Do I still need a moisturiser?

Yes. A serum or ampoule adds a concentrated active; it is not rich enough on its own to seal moisture in the way a cream or lotion does.

Which one should a first-time buyer start with?

The Hyaluronic Acid Ampoule is the easiest starting point — it hydrates rather than actively treats, so there is very little for skin to react to.

A face serum earns its place by carrying one active ingredient in a strong enough dose to do something, in a texture light enough to sit under a cream. Face Fresh sells thirteen of them, spanning the complete ampoule range and four richer beauty serums across four brands. The name on the bottle matters less than what is actually inside it.

Can I mix a tone ampoule with the Retinol Ampoule?

Not on the same night to start. Introduce one new active at a time and give your skin a couple of weeks before adding a second.

How long before I see anything?

Tone actives generally need four to eight weeks of daily use to show a visible change. Hydration is close to instant; firmness and texture sit somewhere in between.

Are the beauty serums and the ampoules interchangeable?

Not quite. The beauty serums are richer and sit last in a routine, while the ampoules are thinner and go on first, closest to the skin.
