Twelve ingredients are identical across all four bars. These are the ones that matter.

Sodium palmate and sodium palm kernelate. The hard half and the foaming half, identical in all four. That ratio, not the extract, decides the feel.

Sodium laureth sulfate. Fourth in three bars, fifth in the jasmine one — the only base ingredient whose position moves between the four.

Perfume. The largest real difference between four otherwise identical bars. Normally fragrance is the last thing separating two products, not the first.

Titanium dioxide. The opaque white base each of the four colours is laid onto. Without it the pigments would look washed out.

Sodium lactate. A hardener. It is why a milled bar survives a wet dish better than a handmade one does.

Tetrasodium EDTA. Stops hard-water minerals reacting with the soap. In Gulf tap water that is the difference between a clean rinse and grey scum.

1. Wet the bar and your skin, then build the lather in your hands.
2. Work it over the body, giving underarms, feet and skin folds a few seconds longer than the rest.
3. Rinse until the skin stops feeling slippery.
4. Stand the bar on a dish that drains, on its edge if the dish allows it.
5. Follow with a lotion applied while the skin is still damp, especially after a hot shower.

Are the four bars actually different, or is it just the wrapper?

Twelve of fourteen ingredients are identical and in the same order. What differs is the colour and the scent, plus one extract on three of the four. The wash itself is the same.

Does it matter which of the four I choose?

Pick on smell, because nothing else meaningfully separates them. Jasmine is the softest, lemon and mint the sharpest, rose the sweetest, aloe the most neutral. If you want something that does more, the full range of Face Fresh bars is worth a look.

Is there really no cucumber, lemon, mint or vitamin E in them?

Correct, according to the printed lists. The jasmine, rose and aloe bars each carry their named extract; cucumber, lemon, mint and vitamin E appear in product names only. We have asked for confirmed ingredient lists.

Why use perfume instead of natural oils?

Perfume holds its scent in a solid bar for months; a distilled oil fades within weeks and oxidises. It is the reason almost every mass-produced bar on the shelf uses one.

How to use bar soap without wasting half of it?

Lather in your hands and apply from there, rather than dragging the bar over your skin. You use less, the lather spreads further, and the bar picks up less dead skin and grit.

How long does a bar of soap last if I shower every day?

Four to six weeks for one person showering daily, if it dries out between uses. A bar left sitting in water can be gone in under two weeks, whatever its size.

What is mild soap, and are these actually mild?

It is not a regulated term. Here it means no acid, no scrub particles and no antibacterial agent — but it is still a true soap with a sulphate in it, so it is mild rather than gentle.

What to do if you get soap in your eye?

Rinse with cool running water for several minutes, holding the eye open. Do not rub it. If stinging or blurred vision lasts more than about twenty minutes, see a pharmacist or doctor.

Will the colours stain the bath or a face cloth?

The pigments can leave a faint tint on a wet soap dish, particularly the pink and green bars. It rinses off. On skin and cloth they do not hold.

Is any of them a good body soap for itchy skin?

None of them treats itch, and all four contain a sulphate and a perfume, so how a whole routine adds up on reactive skin matters more than the bar. Persistent itch that breaks the skin is a doctor’s question.

Are these safe to use on the face?

They will not harm most skin, but they are built for the body. Facial skin does better with a plainer bar made for washing your face, and a scented one is a common cause of tightness around the eyes.
